Simple Steps You Can Take

It will take an extensive grassroots effort to get an Autism benefit. Our biggest challenge is finding Boeing families impacted by Autism.

Here is a draft email message you can send.

  1. Contact people you know who provide Autism services – ABA, educational, mental health.  Follow-up email messages with a call.
  2. Contact your local Autism Society Chapter.   Ask for introductions to other families or to send this email message on your behalf to their listserv.  Example by Autism Society of Washington.
Other ideas?  Please post a comment below or email kevindewalt@puzzleribbon.com.

Research indicates the cost to society of an individual with autism who goes untreated, considering the support they will need across their lifetime, is estimated at $3.5 million. Sooner equals better; the earlier a child can receive a diagnosis and the earlier the much-needed behavioral therapy treatments can begin, the better it will be for the child, for the family and for society at large.

We have been successful in getting Boeing medical insurance to pay for speech and occupational therapy for our son who was first diagnosed as PDD-NOS and now as Autistic. We have not had success with getting coverage for preschool at a private Autism Center.
